ALTERNATIVE/BACKUP VIDEOS
Crazy Horse:
Crazy Horse, literally meaning "His-Horse-Is-Crazy," was born around 1842-3. He was a great First Nations war leader of the Lakota people. When settlers began encroaching upon his territories and the Lakota people's customs, he took up arms against the U.S. Federal government to stop the oppression. Crazy Horse is best known for being one of the major leaders of a war party at the Battle of the Little Bighorn(a.k.a. Custer's Last Stand) in June 1876, the most famous battle of the Great Sioux War. It was an overwhelming victory for Crazy Horse: the U.S. Seventh Cavalry, including the Custer Battalion (a force of 700 men), suffered a major defeat. In total, five U.S. companies were annihilated; Custer was killed and U.S. deaths totaled 268. Since then, Crazy Horse ranks among the most distinctive First Nations tribal members and has been honored by the U.S. Postal Servicewith a postage stamp from the "Great Americans" Series.
Pancho Villa:
Pancho Villa was born on June 5,1878 and is known best as being one of the most prominent Mexican Revolutionary Generals. Since Villa was Commander of the North Division, there was a wealth of resources at his disposal due to the mineral mines in the area and proximity to the United States. This wealth allowed Villa to purchase weapons and train his men appropriately for battle. Furthermore, many streets and neighborhoods in Mexico were named in his honor. This "People's Warrior" developed his reputation by seizing land for distribution to peasants and soldiers.
Villa's dominance in northern Mexico began to crumble in 1915 however, when a series of defeats began to take their toll. After Pancho Villa's raid on Columbusin 1916, the US Armydispatched General J.J. Pershingto capture Villa. However, after nine months of unsuccessful attempts General Pershing was recruited back to lead men into World War I. When Pancho Villa retired he turned his large estate into a "military colony" for his former soldiers, solidifying his image as the "People's Warrior."

Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 9: Gurkhas vs French Foreign Legion - Video
Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 9: Gurkhas vs French Foreign Legion - Video - FULL:
September 14th, 2011 -- The two warriors who literally changed the outcome of World War II finally go head-to-head! The Gurkhas, fearless mountain assassins, take on the French Foreign Legion, the elite army of real-life expendables.
ALTERNATIVE/BACKUP VIDEOS:
Gurkhas:
Gurkha are people from Nepal who take their name from the 8th century Hindu warrior-saint Guru Gorakhnath. Gorkha District is one of the 75 districts of modern Nepal. Gurkhas are best known for their history in the Indian Army's Gorkha regiments, the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas and the Nepalese Army.
In the Gurkha War (1814–1816) they waged war against the British East India Company army. The British were impressed by the Gurkha soldiers and after reaching a stalemate with the Gurkhas, made Nepal a protectorate.[3] Much later, they were granted the right to freely hire them as mercenaries from the interior of Nepal (as opposed to the early British Gurkha mercenaries who were hired from areas such as Assam (i.e., the Sirmoor Rifles) and were then organised in Gurkha regiments in the East India Company army with the permission of then prime minister, Shree Teen (3) Maharaja (Maharana) Jung Bahadur Rana, the first Rana Prime-minister who initiated a Rana oligarchic rule in Nepal.
FFL - French Foreign Legion:
The French Foreign Legion is a unique military wing of the French Army established in 1831. The Foreign Legion was exclusively created for foreign nationals willing to serve in the French Armed Forces. Commanded by French officers, it is also open to French citizens, who amounted to 24% of the recruits as of 2007.
The Foreign Legion is today known as an elite military unit whose training focuses not only on traditional military skills but also on its strong esprit de corps. As its men come from different countries with different cultures, this is a widely accepted solution to strengthen them enough to work as a team. Consequently, training is often described as not only physically challenging, but also extremely stressful psychologically.

Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 10: Zombies vs Vampires - Video - FULL:
Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 -- Two of the world’s most feared legendary creatures finally go head-to-head: Vampires vs. Zombies. Will the brain eaters tear their way into a triumph, or will the blood suckers get the sweet taste of victory? The is the last final episode (Finale) in the Deadliest Warrior SEASON 3.
ALTERNATIVE/BACKUP VIDEOS
Vampires:
We are going to supercharge the suave Bela Lugosi vampire of the 1920s to the more modern vampire such as those depicted in "30 Days of Night." This vampire doesn't seduce, it feeds. With not two teeth that neatly poke you in a single vein on your neck, but a full set of predator teeth with the capability of ripping the entire side of your neck off! Messy, but it gains access to the blood supply very quickly. This ensures this fast, efficient and very strong killer its spot at the top of the food chain as the apex predator.
Zombies:
No black magic voodoo zombies here! We are going to match-up the fanged predator against the George Romero Zombie typical of "Night of the Living Dead". So what you'll see is a human that has been killed by the zombie virus but that same virus has the capability of reanimating the human in order to seek out and consume flesh so as to ensure the continued spread of the virus. Since the zombie is essentially dead it performs this task relentlessly without fatigue and without the social limitations of consciousness.

Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 7: Ivan the Terrible vs Hernan Cortes - Video
Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 7: Ivan the Terrible vs Hernán Cortés - Video
August 31st, 2011 -- On this week's Deadliest Warrior, it's time for the Battle of the Butchers as two of history's most cruelest conquerors face off: Ivan the Terrible and Hernán Cortés.
ALTERNATIVE/BACKUP VIDEOS:
Hernán Cortés:
Hernan Cortes was born around 1485 in Medellín, Spain and grew up to become a Spanish Conquistador and viciously ambitious explorer. Cortés gained military experience through an exploration to Cuba but went on to lead his own exploration of Mexico in 1519, literally, as he performed the action against orders to abort the mission from his superiors. Cortés used superior technology with deadly consequences to conquer Mexico and parts of South America as he knew the Aztec Empire had near endless supplies of gold. Early on Cortés set his sights on the Aztec capital city of Tenochitilán due to the combination of a rebellion and gaining the knowledge that Spanish troops had been dispatched to arrest him for disobeying orders he did not take the city until 1521. Cortés continued to seek wealth, land, and finally recognition for his achievements from the Spanish royal court until his death in 1547.
Ivan the Terrible:
Ivan the Terrible was born in 1530 and went on to become the Grand Prince of Moscow at the age of three when his father died in 1533. Ivan did not formally rule until the death of his mother when he was just eight years old. He crowned himself first Tsar of Russia when he was just 16 years old. His reign, one of the longest of the Russian Tsars, saw the expansion of the Russian Empire to literally double in geography. This increase in size, largely by conquest, eventually allowed trade with Europe. While his English nickname (Ivan the Terrible) inspires fear and accurately represents his actions, it's probably not a very good translation of his actual nickname Ivan Grozny which is more accurately translated to Ivan the Formidable or Ivan the Great. Interestingly, Ivan died from a stroke while playing chess against his close friend and bodyguard.

Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 6: Teddy Roosevelt vs Lawrence of Arabia - Video
Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 6: Teddy Roosevelt vs Lawrence of Arabia - Video:
August 24th, 2011 -- On this week's Deadliest Warrior, two of the greatest warriors of the early 20th century go head to head as Teddy Roosevelt takes on Lawrence of Arabia!
ALTERNATIVE/BACKUP:
ALTERNATIVE/BACKUP #2:
Theodore Roosevelt:
Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was born in 1858 to a wealthy family. Having asthma, he was home schooled. However, once attending Harvard he started boxing and showed an interest in naval affairs as he went on to publish The Naval War of 1812 in 1882. After University he ran a cattle ranch but soon returned east to perform the duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. During his stint, The Spanish-American War broke out and wanting to ensure that American power was felt overseas he promptly resigned his naval position and summoned a group of statesmen, cowboys, and Harvard Alumni alike to accompany him to Cuba to take the fight to the enemy. This conglomerate group of men, officially known as the "First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment", but became affectionately known by the press and general public as the "Rough Riders". Roosevelt quickly rose through the ranks as leaders and men alike fell gravely ill (the good Doctor will explain on the show). Being now a full Colonel, Roosevelt led the entire regiment of Rough Riders. Under Roosevelt's leadership, the Rough Riders successfully charged up two enemy fortified hills in one day. On July 1, 1898 Roosevelt led the Rough Riders under cover of the great Gatling Gun up both Kettle Hill and San Juan Hill. Mack will take you through the strategy used by Roosevelt and the Rough Riders that fateful day in detail during this week's "Chalk Talk".
After returning from Cuba, Roosevelt was elected Governor and within two years, he was elected Vice President of the United States. Then in 1901 when the current president was assassinated Roosevelt became the 26th President of the United States. At the age of 42 he was the youngest of any other President in history. He coined the term "speak softly and carry a big stick" and was the first American to win the Nobel Peace Prize. This man's accomplishments continue but these are the major ones that are most relevant to this week's show. Wow!
Lawrence of Arabia:
Thomas Edward Lawrence was born illegitimately to a governess on August 16, 1888. Lawrence goes on to study history and archeology graduating with First Class Honors. During the last summer prior to graduation Lawrence completed a three-month walking tour of crusader castles in the Ottoman which he travelled over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) on foot. So, when we say he is an extremely fit individual we mean it. Continuing his education after college he picks up seven languages showing his incredible capacity for communication. Lawrence finds employment as an archeologist in the Middle East. However, at the outbreak of WWI Lawrence is contracted by the British Military to perform a covert military survey of the Negev Desert under cover of performing archeological research in the same area. Since Lawrence had gained such an extensive knowledge of the Ottoman Empire geographically during his travels and archeological research he was eventually posted to Cairo on the Intelligence Staff for the Middle East. Lawrence is most famous for the successful battle of Aqaba and again Mack will take you through the tactics that were used during this fight that almost ended Lawrence's life not by a bullet BUT by a fall from a camel. Ironically, Lawrence died at the young age of 42 after just leaving the service as he fell from his motorcycle after swerving to avoid two children on their bicycles.

Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 5: Saddam Hussein vs Pol Pot - Video
Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 5: Saddam Hussein vs Pol Pot - Video - FULL:
August 17th, 2011 -- One of the most controversial episodes yet erupt when the leader of the largest contiguous empire of all time; Saddam Hussein takes on the man whose name struck fear into the heart of all Romans...Pol Pot.
Saddam Hussein:
A leading member of the revolutionary Ba'ath Party, which espoused a mix of Arab nationalism and Arab socialism, Saddam played a key role in the 1968 coup that brought the party to long-term power.
As vice president under the ailing General Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr, and at a time when many groups were considered capable of overthrowing the government, Saddam created security forces through which he tightly controlled conflict between the government and the armed forces. In the early 1970s, Saddam nationalized oil and other industries. The state-owned banks were put under his control, leaving the system eventually insolvent. Through the 1970s, Saddam cemented his authority over the apparatuses ofgovernment as oil money helped Iraq's economy to grow at a rapid pace. Positions of power in the country were filled with Sunnis, a minority that made up only a fifth of the population. Saddam suppressed several movements, particularly Shi'a and Kurdish movements seeking to overthrow thegovernment or gain independence, respectively. Saddam maintained power during the Iran–Iraq War of 1980 through 1988. In 1990 he invaded and looted Kuwait. An international coalition came to free Kuwait in the Gulf War of 1991, but did not end Saddam's rule. Whereas some venerated him for his aggressive stance against Israel, including firing missiles at Israeli targets, he was widely condemned for the brutality of his dictatorship. In March 2003, a coalition of countries led by the U.S. and U.K. invaded Iraq to depose Saddam, controversially citing his weapons of mass destruction and terror links. Saddam's Ba'ath party was disbanded and the nation transitioned to a democratic system. Captured on 13 December 2003, Saddam was brought to trial under the Iraqi interimgovernment . On 5 November 2006, he was convicted of charges related to the 1982 killing of 148 Iraqi Shi'ites and was sentenced to death by hanging. Saddam was executed on 30 December 2006.
Pol Pot:
Given the secretive nature of Pol Pot precise political activities that landed him at the top may never be known but what he did during his 3 yr, 8 month, and 21 day rule of Cambodia with the Khmer Rouge cannot soon be forgotten and will forever go down as one of the most heinous crimes in modern history. Depending on what reference you read the total number that perished under the Khmer Rouge regime has a large range but is estimated at 1.7 million people (~21% of Cambodia's population). Many of whom were tortured and/or brutally executed but many more died of exhaustion and disease. Cambodia's urban population was forced from their homes to work the fields in a slave labor fashion for 12-15 hrs per day. Human remains continue to expose themselves near the Killing Fields of Cheoung Ek to this day. Pol Pot ordered the execution of the educated and the destruction of vehicles. Hence, the economy has continued to struggle to improve since he left power.

Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 4: Genghis Khan vs Hannibal - Video
Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 4: Genghis Khan vs. Hannibal - Video - FULL:
August 10th, 2011 -- The founder and emperor of the Mongol Empire, Genghis Khan vs. the Carthaginian military commander who is regarded by many as a "gifted strategist", Hannibal.
Hannibal:
A Carthaginian general known for his clever war tactics, Hannibal Barca (247 – 183 B.C.) is considered to be ancient Rome's greatest enemy of all time. He learned a great deal about military strategy from his father, Hamilcar Barca, who was the Carthaginian commander during the First Punic War (264-241 B.C.). In 218 Hannibal took the battle to the Romans, marching through the Alps, easily disposing of any enemies along the way. Hannibal journeyed with approximately 38,000 soldiers, 8,000 cavalry, and 37 war elephants to Italy to battle and defeat his enemies. After winning the Battles of Trebia and Ticinus, Hannibal and his army now occupied Northern Italy. He continued to leave a trail of destroyed Roman cities and made the Romans suffer dearly, but later in 203 B.C. he trekked back to Carthage as he just couldn't take over Rome. He was defeated at the Battle of Zama and when the Romans demanded his surrender, he committed suicide in 183 B.C. Hannibal wasn't only one of the greatest military tacticians of all time, he was also the man whose name struck fear into the hearts ofthe Romans for many years.
Genghis Khan:
Commander of the absolute largest contiguous empire of all time (conquering most of the known world), Genghis Khan ruled over the entirety of the Mongol Empire. Born in 1162, Genghis was born as Temüjin in modern-day Mongolia to a life of hardships. Temüjin's father was poisoned by enemy tribes when he was a child, and due to an arranged marriage, he was soon married to Börte of the Olkut'hun tribe at the tender age of 16. His rise to power was in 1206 when his political image was strengthened, and he prepared the Mongol Empire to attack Western Xia. Genghis Khan's brilliant military strategy extended the Mongol Empire to a total of 12 million square miles – from the Danube River in Europe to China's Yellow Sea. He was so powerful and deadly that the only time he was stopped in his tracks was when he died in 1227 from severe wounds in battle.

Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 3: U.S. Army Rangers vs North Korean Special Operations Forces - Video
Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 3: U.S. Army Rangers vs North Korean Special Operations Forces - Video - FULL:
August 3rd, 2011 -- Can the U.S. Army Rangers outgun the North Korean Special Operations Forces? Find out when Deadliest Warrior goes live for the first time with Special Guest Strikeforce Middleweight Fighter Tim Kennedy!
ALTERNATIVE/BACKUP VIDEOS:
U.S. Army Rangers:
Due to the "protected" regime under Kim Jung Il and his predecessors, little is known regarding North Korean Special Operations Forces. From what I could find through non-vetted sources there are about 200,000 Special Forces operators in use by North Korea and their primary mandate is to breach the defenses of the South and conduct strategic reconnaissance in preparation for war. Hence, they seem obsessed with obtaining control of the Korean peninsula, are therefore familiar with that terrain, and highly specialized but may lack what Mack would call operational experience.
North Korean Special Operations Forces:
To wear the coveted Gold and Black Ranger Tab on your uniform is to say that you are not only a member of the U.S. Army's elite light infantry fighting unit but it also says that you have "explored the outer limits of the human spirit" according to Ranger Robert Black. The Ranger Tab also says that you are prepared to become mobile and operational in any climate that God's green earth can muster in less than a moment's notice. Other than this I'm not going to give you a rundown on the U.S. Army Ranger's. Instead I'm going to give you a brief on the experts that came on our show to represent the Rangers as their lives and personalities embody what it means to be a Ranger and what I learned from them is that Rangers, truly, lead the way.

Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 2: Joan of Arc vs William the Conqueror - VIDEO
Deadliest Warrior Season 3 Episode 2: Joan of Arc vs William the Conqueror - VIDEO:
July 27th, 2011 -- Get ready to smack talk each other like never before because this week for the first time on Deadliest Warrior we have a medieval battle of the sexes when our first female warrior Joan of Arc faces off against William the Conqueror!
Joan of Arc:
Born in 1412 as a peasant in France, who later claimed to have received divine guidance after remarkably predicting a military turn of events near Orléans. While a convincing 12-year-old girl, it was more likely that France viewed her as the only source of hope for a regime near collapse. The French Military was demoralized and every logical option attempted and failed. Hence the decision to place a girl claiming God was instructing her to lead her countries army seemed like a good option as they had nothing else to lose. After gaining control Joan led the French army to multiple key victories that helped pave the way for the crowning of King Charles VII. However, like most great stories there is a tragic ending. Joan was captured by the Burgundians, sold to the English, and tried and burned at the stake when she was 19, leaving her a patron saint of France.
William the Conqueror:
Born around 1028 as an illegitimate son of Robert I, Duke of Normandy but in fact his only living son. Hence, when his father died in 1035, William was recognized as heir. As William aged he took more personal control and gained military experience by warding off rebellions from 1046-1055. William, jilted by having Harold (Earl of Wessex) crowned King in 1066 instead of him; a position promised to him, invaded England and camped near Hastings. Harold arrived without delay to ward William off and while it was a close-fought battle, Harold was killed and his army collapsed. On Christmas Day 1066, William was crowned King of England.
