As an amateur, Jason Yee was one of the best fighters the US has ever produced. He was the first American to win a medal in international competition and a multiple time national champion. As a trainer, he pioneered US San Shou with his "dream team". Jason retired from amateur competition in 1995 feeling he had achieved what could be achieved. That was two years before there was such a thing as professional San Shou.
Tempted by the lure of professional San Shou and also in large part to help promote the sport, Jason agreed to fight Cung Le on the Pay-Per-View event held in Florida in 1997. Jason agreed to go up in weight. For a man who hadn't fought in two years, had gone up in weight and who had been sick for months before the fight, Jason Yee put in a strong performance but lost a decision to Cung. Jason retired once again to focus on his movie career only to be lured back at the beginning of the year by the prospect of a few high profile matches.

Last Friday, Ryan Couture, the son of current UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture, won his MMA amateur debut defeating Ricky Perez (1-1) via triangle choke in the first round at the West Coast Fight Club event in the Bellingham (Wash.) Sports Plex.
Ryan's victory kicks off a pretty eventful month for the Couture family. Next up, Randy defends his heavyweight crown against Brock Lesnar this Saturday night at UFC 91, while step-mother, Kim, makes her Strikeforce debut on November 21st against Lina Kvokov.
